Winger

Mary Ann Long was born in Kentucky about 1841. She died on 5 Aug 1870 and was buried at Black Walnut Cemetery. SCCHS records list two husbands: Francis Pujol and John Winger. They show up on the 1860 and 1870 Census documents. You can find Mary on the 1860 Census with her first husband and one child John. On the 1870 census, Mary is now married to John Winger with her two sons – John and Francis Pujol. We are fortunate to find Mary on the 1870 census as it was taken on August 3rd and she died on August 5th.

Both census documents show her as being born in Kentucky. Her son John’s death certificate gives us the information that her maiden name is Long, but shows her birthplace as Illinois. We think that the census documents are likely more reliable, as she was alive and would have had input on her own documentation. We have documented her father as Tennessee Long, based on the 1850 census as well as the proximity of their gravesites next to each other inthe cemetery.

Her son John Baptiste Pujol married Sophia Wunsch and had children whose families remained in the greater St Charles area. Their marriages include the Boschert, Fryer, and Burton families. Those families, especially the Boschert descendants have provided us with family tree information to document the family to current times.
